Beaumont, Troy Achieves Magnet Recognition® for the Third Time

Today we received some great news we are eager to share: Beaumont, Troy has achieved Magnet® designation from the American Nurses Credentialing Center for the third time. Congratulations!

Magnet® signifies a commitment to the highest quality of care. Troy is among fewer than 500 hospitals in the world and one of only 12 in Michigan to receive this honor.

This status reflects the amazing nurses and patient care teams we have at Troy and the excellence they hold themselves to every day. It also recognizes how all employees, physicians, volunteers, and patient and family advisors must work together to create the positive work environment and excellent patient outcomes that the Magnet Recognition Program® celebrates.

We are so proud and happy for those who led the program at Troy. We especially congratulate Kelley McMillan, RN, director of Nursing Education, Research and Magnet; Sarah Berry, DNP, RN, clinical nurse specialist and Magnet program manager; and Melissa Foreman-Lovell, DNP, RN, chief nursing officer. Additionally, special thanks to Debra Guido-Allen, RN, who served as Troy’s chief nursing officer during the Magnet® submission process. Thank you all for your insightful leadership.

From the recent Magnet® site visit survey, Troy received three exemplars, a rare accomplishment, in:

  • Magnet standard for transformational leadership – for inviting and including more than 70 patient and family advisors to be involved in a variety of committees, including an executive council, which influences the organization’s decision-making.
  • Magnet standard for exemplary professional practice – nurses are empowered to practice with autonomy, as evidence by their work and shared governance. Nurses explore, update and improve patient care, participate in procedure and policy development, and influence decisions in the institution.
  • Magnet standard for new knowledge and innovation – nurses researched and implemented an improved method of triaging patients with stroke symptoms. A special thank you to Sara Chung, RN, for developing this tool.

Three of Beaumont’s acute care campuses have achieved Magnet Recognition®, and it is our goal to have all eight achieve this distinction. We are confident that by collaborating and living the core concepts of patient and family-centered care, we will reach that goal.

This extraordinary work moves us one step closer to our Moonshot goal. It is also part of our strategic plan’s three-year goal to grow the number of people who look to us for care by 10%.

Please join us in congratulating the Troy team for this tremendous accomplishment and for creating another Beaumont Proud moment.
